Last Entry

This will probably be my last entry until Saturday evening sometime. There’s things that have to be done around here, so I shall be leaving Youghal on Saturday and travelling up to the Travelodge in Waterford for a short stopover before heading back to Rosslare and home on Monday.

So, I shall hopefully talk to you all and see you all soon!

More of the same

More of the same I’m afraid. Nothing really going on, so it makes for quite a boring blog entry as usual. Good news is that I managed to get my hands on a copy of the Smarty template library, so I can work on some website stuff over here. Gimp for Windows has also been downloaded.

More later, hopefully.

Nothing to do

Bored, nothing to do. I’ve even resorted to doing copious amount of mathematics 2 months before I have to go back to university. Ah, bad times.

Anyway, will post something soon. Nothing interesting going on here at the moment.

Now In Youghal

Not much going on, but thought I’d write a quick entry to say that I’m in Youghal. Nothing going on at all, but oh well.

Will maybe post another update in a couple of days after something has actually happened.

Bored.

With nothing to do I find myself spending yet more money on the so called “interweb”. Oh well, never mind - it’s quite good to be able to keep in touch, even when I’m 300 miles from home.

Not up to much today, as you can tell by the title. After the internet cafe trip, found the rest of the folks and came back to the hotel - just finished dinner, as a matter of fact. With the rest of the guys engrossed in Big Brother, I’m finding myself very bored indeed.

Not content with upgrading my aunt’s computer to the latest version of OS X, I’ve decided that it would be a good idea to try and get the classic PHP/MySQL setup working on there (since Apache is shipped with the thing anyway). As a matter of fact, it’s been a complete synch getting the stuff set up and nicely done.

The biggest problem that I’ve had so far is getting Smarty set up without beating it to death with a spoon. It doesn’t seem to like Darwin too much, but I’ve sure got a lot of time to sort it out and get the thing debugged. I realise now (which is rather too late) that I should have put the source code for this site, and worked on this for a bit. Oh well - benefit of hindsight, and all that. Perhaps if I get a chance, I’ll take my memory stick to the internet cafe down in Youghal.

My plans for this week are pretty minimal. Try and stay occupied as much as possible as to make time fly. It’s been pretty dismal down here so far, and I can’t see it getting all to much better. There’s nothing for me really to do, even with the plethora of equipment and other things that we’ve brought along for the trip. I think that more than anything (apart from Sarah, of course ;) I’m missing not having the instant communication that I’m so used to with the Internet. Hard to think that we’d find ourselves so reliant on such trivialities, but there we go.

Anyway, I think that’s enough blogging for the time being at least. I’m going to go and get back to beating Smarty with a giant stick.

Hopefully get on here tomorrow. If not, then certainly Monday.

Not much going on here

I have to say that there’s not a lot going on here. Currently in an internet cafe writing this blog entry in the lovely town of Waterford. Got little to do really, and haven\’t done anything since last night. Hopefully I’ll have some more interesting things to blog tomorrow. Maybe.

However, I may be somewhat limited in the next few days. Will be driving down to Youghal tomorrow to move into the cottage we’ve rented for 2 weeks. However, Youghal’s quite small, hence we may or may not be able to access the interweb there. I’ve seen adverts for an internet cafe somewhere around there, but I’ve never seen one there in any of the many times visiting. Hopefully I\ll be wrong.

In other news, looking at the “Are You Ready?” questions for Maths in the 4th year. So far, I’m not doing very well really. However I have a bit of spare time to go and look at it more detail tonight, so I’ll immerse myself in that for a bit.

Anyway, running out of things to write about now, so I’ll depart for the time being. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to keep this blog going over the holidays, but I suppose we’ll have to see.

Later, all.

Down in Ireland

Well, made it down in one piece. The drive wasn’t too bad, and they have a computer down here so I’m able to access the net. Only got 7:55 remaining though, so I’d better get a move on.

Ferry was fast. We ate Chinese takeaway at the Travelodge since the Little Chef stops taking orders at 7:45 (!). Apart from that? Well, I’m not planning on doing very much, even if the rest of the family is. I shall be relaxing tomorrow ahead of a more stressful drive on Tuesday.

For now though, I have other things to do so I shall depart for the time being. Hopefully I’ll get back on tomorrow and post about things of a less boring nature.

Right, so I’d better type something

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve been on here. Nevertheless, I’m going to type up some of what I’ve been doing and stuff, since otherwise this entire thing is a complete waste of time. So there.

It’s been an interesting couple of weeks. Spent last week down in Plymouth with Sarah generally having a good time and chilling out a bit after the exams. Went to see some ships in harbour (they’re big) and went to see a load of other neat, but inevitably pointless and extremely touristy things. So yes, I left on Sunday - which wasn’t fun - but the journey was okay so I guess that’s one small mercy.

The rest of this week has been spent, for the most part, sitting in this chair coding like a proper coder monkey. I’m pretty much finished with my current project, which must be finished by the end of next week really. It also means that I’ll be having some money come in fairly soon, which is never a bad thing. It’s given my new backend a very good testing, and I have to say that it’s come up trumps - well worth all of the effort I put into it in the first place.

Other than all of that? Well, eating and sleeping have been pretty high on the list of things to kill time. I have to say that I must have been coding for between 8 and 10 hours every day this week, so there’s not been a lot of time for anything else - this blog included. However, I did have a bit of a chance to read Harry Potter, which I was fairly disappointed with. Perhaps it’s just me, but the entire thing was just one massive anti-climax.

Hopefully, with this big project out of the way in a few days, I should be able to return to regular updates on here. There’s certainly a number of things I want to fix on here, and also implement some new features if I can be bothered. A couple of improvements on the layout front wouldn’t go amiss, and perhaps a new style if I’m feeling really ambitious. To be honest, I’m just looking forward to my hosts installing PHP 5 on here - at the moment, it’s only available as a CGI option which I’m not liking too much.

This also reminds me; I have to add a feature for auto-acronyms. Bugger.

Anyway, since it is now ridiculous o’clock and I have to get up in the morning, I shall stop here. Another update tomorrow, perhaps. Or perhaps not.

PS: I’m off to Ireland (maybe) on the 12th. Any offers of drinking would be appreciated muchly. Ta.

Down in Plymouth

For all those who are interested, I’m currently down in Plymouth so won’t be around until Thursday or Friday. I’m keeping this entry mercifully short because the keyboard I’m using is one of the worst in existance (ever), so will post later.

PS: Am currently writing this entry in Goonhilly Earth Station. It’s all rather cool really.

And again I leave the blog astray

Unfortunately I’ve had a rather busy week so it’s been impossible to update this thing. However, I’ll (briefly) fill everyone in.

I saw London bombings on TV. I don’t need to add anything to what’s already been said. We’ll get them.

However, I spent most of my week at work, logging tapes and various other things so there’s not been much time to actually do anything. Hopefully that should all be finished and done by tomorrow or possibly Saturday (maybe even later than that, but I really hope not).

Today, however, was rather good. Got shiny new 8mbit broadband from Bulldog and it is very fast. So a fair proporation of today has been spent doing various bits and pieces in connection with that as well as a goodly amount of programming.

Currently, I’m tidying my computer and performing some much-needed maintainance (which I’ve learned is essential with XP really). Perhaps I’ll take it apart later and clean the damn thing out, since everything is bloody caked in dust. Could also do with a couple fans taking out/being turned down since it’s rather noisy.

For those that care, I shall be down in Plymouth until the end of next week and I will be leaving on Friday. You have been warned - or something…
