Reflection News

Thanks to JohannesReflection (the theme that I use for my photoblog) has become very popular over the last couple of weeks. Apologies again for those who tried in vein to download it whilst I had server issues – that should hopefully all be sorted out now.

This post is just to let you know that development is still very much alive and well and I have a bit of free time to do some work on it over the next few days. Here’s a preliminary list of improvements:

  • Create a simple admin interface for easier modification of header image and little features that I’ve hard-coded in.
  • Add support for tags – really, I don’t see the point in adding category support at this point in time.
  • General code improvements to make the animations a bit faster, and port everything over to the latest version of mootools
  • Clean up CSS – much simpler ways of making the drop-down menus work.
  • Fix rendering support in IE6 since it’s currently all broken.

Please let me know if you want anything in particular, either in the comments or drop me an e-mail

    Hi,

I’ve installed reflection on my site. I really like the theme, you did a great job designing it! The theme even made me port back my Pixelpost install to WordPress.

What I really would like supported is the following:

-a “GPS” overlay, just like the EXIF and info Overlay. Built in support for the “WP Geo” plugin in this overlay would even be better. This overlay would then show a google map of the location where the picture is taken
-Built in support for the WP-Ratings and WP-Views plugin, designed by Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan.
-Widget support, possibly for adding extra features to the blog

    Keep up the good work!

The theme looks great. Unfortunately I had no luck getting it to work. Under both WordPress 2.5.1 and 2.6.2, with a single post and YAPB properly enabled, all I get back is what looks like unprocessed PHP. The preview in the Theme chooser simply shows a blank.

I’ve already spent some hours on this. So without a suggestion I’ll have to look elsewhere.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi!
You’ve made a great theme! I just installed it, and so far, I love it ;)
Do you have any plans for multi-language support? That would be great!

    Anyway, keep it up ;)

Thanks for your comment. I am happy and very willing to include multi-language support in Reflection provided that people can send me translations :-) I will post something now regarding the status of the promised (and unfortunately not-yet-completed update) later on today and include something about this in it.

    That sounds promising, thanks :)
I am willing to help you with a norwegian translation if you provide an english language file ;)

Hello! this theme is very beautiful but unfortunately I get the following error message when trying to install it (I’ve got the latest version of WP, the latest version of yet-another-photoblog, and already posted 3 photos as 3 different posts)

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in …/wordpress/wp-content/themes/reflection/index.php on line 20

any idea of how to solve the problem?

    Thanks in advance

I get the same error. Any suggestions?

I’m using your theme and truely appreciate you making it available to the public. I could never get same quality attempting this on my own.

Question; I found the YAPB Sidebar Widget that allows new or random YAPB pictures from another site to show in your sidebar. What did you do to make your newest photos show up in a post on your home page?

    Thanks, Corey

    Hi Dave,

Amazing theme! I love it for it’s stylishness and simplicity. The only thing that I really wish to have is support for some sort of search/organization. Preferably tags or categories. Being a fellow pHD student, I can understand that you probably don’t have too much time to spend on this. However, would it be possible for you to maybe point me in the right direction in terms of what I would need to do to be able to setup a “Tags” page which lists all my tags and how I can call a search (like the mosaic page) which only displays thumbnails of images from a particular tag.

    Thanks a ton. Cheers!

    Hey Dave,

Btw, your dates on the comments are all funky! Just thought I’d give you a heads up.

    Cheers

Thanks for all your hard work on this theme, I love it!
One thing I’ve been having trouble with is the Mosaic page with large images. Smaller images work fine, but when I upload something big, it fails to produce a thumbnail.
I know with the “Grain” theme all the thumbnails are produced, and I have like 128 ram designated in my php.ini so I am not sure why thumbnails are not being generated…do you know if there is something I can do to fix this?
I currently am not linking to the mosaic from the main page, but it can be accessed here: http://snapshots.actioncambodia.org/archive (I changed the name as well as the scripts to match it).

Any help you can give would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Nathan

The issue I spoke of has been fixed in the release of Reflection 1.1
    Thanks so much!
