Well, this is a first…
As some of you may be aware, I spend quite a lot of time over at SFN, mostly doing administrative work these days. We have a custom-coded LaTeX plugin which I haven’t bothered releasing yet because there doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm for it, and also because I don’t really consider it to be production-stable.
Well, about a year ago, some guys over at the Math Help Forum absolutely begged me to help them set up LaTeX, and caved in and gave them the code. Since then, I’ve redesigned the mod, making it into a proper vBulletin plugin and utilizing dvipng instead of running through dvips and convert.
Yesterday, I received another e-mail from the Math Help Forum asking me whether I could help them set the plugin up after they upgraded to vBulletin 3.6. I responded, and, being the nice guy that I am, said I could. However, after sending the message, I decided to have a look on their site and see if anything had changed since the last time I visited.
At this point, I’d like to invite the readers of this blog to boot up Firefox, load SFN in one tab and have MHF open in another tab. Just flick between the two for about 10 seconds and you should be able to realise that, essentially, the main ideas have been liberally lifted - without permission - from SFN. Since I spent some time coming up with the idea for that theme it’s rather annoying to have it lifted without my consent.
Not only that, but the Aqua-style buttons which I created seem to have also been lifted. I consider this to be completely and utterly unacceptable. They’re received a rather strongly-worded e-mail from me to that extent, so we shall see what comes of it.
It’s certainly a first for me - I suppose I should be flattered, but this is taking the biscuit somewhat.

It looks like they’ve upgraded to 3.6 and changed the layout now.

Oh good. That’s one less loose end to clean up today.
I really don’t see why people do this sort of thing. I guess they just can’t be bothered coming up with their own ideas.
