We had the same thing with the Quantum Mechanics album last year. 2/3 of the questions weren't in the syllabus, and we actually got the SSLC to complain about it. It must have been pretty heavily moderated, since most people got a higher percentage than they'd actually answered.

Ah yes, good old Algebra I. Dmitriy didn't really help us there – in the revision lecture, he said "Make sure to remember the first isomorphism theorem, as it's very important." Very important if you want to study Algebra, but not if you wanted hints for the exam as it turns out :-)

I know exactly how you feel, the Algebra I exam taken last week was terrible. Everyone came out of the exam with the most stunned faces-eyes wide open, mouth gaping with the words 'what on earth was that about?' written all over their faces.
It's ok setting a difficult exam paper, but setting one so that everybody finds almost every spart hard is just demoralising.

I think that if a lecturer is going to give you guidelines for revision then contradicting what is on the exam is not benefiting anyone.

Sometimes I think that academics are in their own little world where they dont realise that the rest of the world does NOT revolve around them and their research.
